History and Background
ACTUAL SURVEYORS, PLLC is
owned and operated by Micah Taze Crowder, L.S. Taze has over 18 years of
experience in the Land Surveying field. He started his surveying career as an
apprentice with Robert G. Cantley, Inc. (Land Surveyors) in the summer of 1992.
During that time and with the patient training of Robert Cantley, L.S. and
Donald E. Shires, Taze learned his surveying ABC's. Later Taze worked for
American Electric Power, Lang Engineering Company, McMurry Surveyors, Hayes
Seay Mattern and Mattern (now AECOM) and in the summer of 2004 began working
with ACS DESIGN. While working for ACS DESIGN under the tutelage of David A.
Bess, L.S., Daniel M. Early, P.E., Scott F. Easter, P.E., and Don Shires,
Director of Operations, Taze gained the experience necessary to operate a
company and to qualify for full licensure as a Land Surveyor in the State of
Virginia.

We Support Education
Actual Surveyors is pleased to support education of the Surveyors of Tomorrow, we hope. An
opportunity presented itself when a client proposed a school fieldtrip to the
property he recently purchased in Amherst County. Mr. Randall Reiss, a school teacher
in the Richmond, VA area, took several students to his property for a live
demonstration of field surveying techniques. It was a privilege to be asked to
participate in this educational “adventure”. Actual Surveyors extends a hearty thanks to all who participated in this trip and made it
possible. Who knows, maybe several students may become surveyors in the future. Please enjoy the photos of the trip and the accompanying descriptions
provided by Mr. Reiss.

Taze introduces the students (and adults!) to the purpose and basics of surveying. Math's involved!

Time to find the nail using the metal detector!

Shift the ball cap to the "cool" position before looking through the equipment!

Taze
explains that the equipment measures distance by using laser beams that travel
at light speed. Science and math!

"Back
in the day . . ." surveying might not have been accurate due to iron in
the rocks, pulling the compass needle out of line with magnetic north.
More science!

Taze
explains the corner stake, then uses the compass to lead the group towards the
next corner stake. Have to know degrees - math!

Heavy clothing protects from the briars! What obstacles and challenges surveyors must face!

The class plants a makeshift flag marking where the property meets the Buffalo River.

After trekking through dense pine, Taze leads the group back to the starting point. Follow the guy with the machete!!
